Educator Stress: A Growing Concern
Within the StressOut project, Parent’s association “Step by Step” focused primarily on workplace stress among parents and educators. Throughout the project, our organization worked closely with educators to better understand the pressures they face in their professional lives and to explore practical tools to support their well-being. During the Stress Awareness Days organized by PASBS, educators openly shared the many stress factors present in their daily work. These sessions provided a safe space for discussion and highlighted just how widespread and intense workplace stress has become in the education sector.
When the StressOut mobile application was presented, educators immediately expressed a strong need for such a tool. Many reported feeling overwhelmed by their responsibilities and recognized the app as a valuable source of support. Some participants even took the initiative to share and distribute the app within their own schools and kindergartens, emphasising the high levels of stress they were experiencing. In addition, educators introduced the StressOut app during their internal support and peer groups, where it received very positive feedback. This demonstrated both the relevance of the project and the urgent demand for accessible stress-management resources tailored to educators.
Stress among educators is increasing at a steady pace. The education sector is facing ever-growing demands, including stricter regulations, expanding curricula, and the rapid introduction of new technologies. These changes often require educators to constantly adapt, frequently without sufficient training or support. Parental pressure has also intensified. Many parents insist that their children must achieve the highest grades, regardless of performance, and in some cases, teachers are threatened when results do not meet expectations. This creates an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, further increasing stress levels.
At the same time, challenging student behavior is becoming more common. Educators often feel powerless to address these issues due to concerns about legal consequences or complaints. The fear of legal action limits their authority and increases emotional strain. In many situations, educators are expected to take on responsibilities that traditionally belong to parents, effectively being asked to raise children in addition to educating them.
With all these pressures combined, it is crucial that educators, who play a key role in shaping future generations, take care of their own mental and physical well-being. Stress is harmful in many ways and can have serious long-term effects on both mental and physical health. Projects like StressOut provide essential tools and awareness to help educators recognize, manage, and reduce stress. Supporting educators is not only beneficial for their own health, but also vital for creating a healthier, more balanced educational environment for children and society as a whole.
